Offering your products and services over the phone isn't exactly the most enjoyable way to market your offerings. However, research and studies confirm that this is one of the most effective ways to connect with people who are most likely to buy from you.
List building. The first thing that you need to do is to capture the contact information of qualified prospects (meaning, people who need and can afford your products). There are so many ways to do this; you can use opt-in forms on your website and blog, you can use yellow pages, or buy list from online companies. Just make sure that your list is of high quality so you will not waste your time, money, and energy on those people who are not really interested on what you offer.
Plan ahead. You'll increase your chances of succeeding in this field if you plan ahead. Before you make your first cold call, prepare your sales script and practice at least a couple of times. You need to make sure that you'll sound enthusiastic and confident so people will not think that you are a fraud.
How to start the call. Give your prospects a warm greeting. Then, introduce yourself and give tell reason why you are calling them upfront. If needed, ask for the decision-maker before you continue with your sales pitch.
Ask for appointment. Ask interested people if you can call them again or meet up with them after the initial contact so you'll have more time to talk about your products and services. Be very specific with the date and time.
